Day 1: Marrakech to Agdez
Begin your journey with a scenic drive through the majestic High Atlas Mountains, crossing the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Along the way, explore the iconic Kasbah Telouet, once the seat of the powerful Glaoui family, followed by a stop at the UNESCO-listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a beautifully preserved fortified village that has appeared in many films. Continue southward through the Dra’a Valley, lined with endless date palms and ancient kasbahs. Arrive in the quiet town of Agdez, nestled at the edge of the desert, where you'll spend the night in a local guesthouse.
Day 2: Agdez to M’Hamid
After breakfast, visit the historic Kasbah Tamnougalt, one of the oldest and most atmospheric kasbahs in southern Morocco. Drive deeper into the Dra’a Valley, stopping in Zagora for lunch. While there, explore a traditional pottery workshop and visit the renowned Quranic library of Tamegroute, home to centuries-old manuscripts. In the late afternoon, arrive in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open desert. Settle into a comfortable, furnished Berber tent, enjoy dinner around a fire, and prepare for the camel trekking adventure to come.
Day 3-6: M’Hamid – Desert Trek Erg Chigaga
Today marks the beginning of your Sahara camel trekking adventure. After a hearty breakfast, meet your experienced nomad guides and camel caravan who will lead you into the wild expanse of the desert. You’ll trek through varied terrain—rolling dunes, dry riverbeds, and acacia-dotted plains—absorbing the serene and timeless beauty of the Sahara. Break for lunch under the shade of tamarisk trees, then continue your trek in the golden afternoon light. By sunset, arrive at a traditional Berber tented camp, where you'll relax and enjoy a freshly cooked dinner beneath the stars. Basic shower and toilet facilities are available.
Awaken to the quiet stillness of the desert. After breakfast, continue trekking across ever-changing landscapes, from rocky hamada to soft sand dunes that grow higher as you near Erg Chigaga, one of the most majestic dune fields in Morocco.
Spend the day exploring the towering dunes of Erg Chigaga, whether on foot or camelback. Climb to the dune tops for panoramic views that stretch to the Algerian border, watch the wind paint ripples into the sand, or simply rest and enjoy the quiet grandeur of the desert. Day 7: Erg Chigaga to Ouarzarzate
After breakfast in the dunes, begin your return journey by 4x4 through the wild and remote desert. The route crosses the dry Lake Iriqui, a vast and hauntingly beautiful salt flat, then winds through dramatic rock formations toward the town of Foum Zguid. After lunch along the way, continue north, watching the desert gradually give way to more fertile valleys. By late afternoon, arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Morocco" for its famous film studios and ancient kasbahs. Overnight in a comfortable guesthouse or riad.
Day 8: Ouarzazate to Marrakech
Today’s scenic drive back to Marrakech leads you once again over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, the highest mountain road in North Africa. Along the way, stop to explore the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved earthen villages in the country. Continue through winding mountain roads with opportunities to take in panoramic views of Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening which concludes your unforgettable journey across Morocco’s diverse landscapes.
